A Warm Welcome To Our New Additions
We’ve been breeding stars in the Barossa since 1965, yet this success isn’t without the dedicated support of some wonderful employees. With the 2019 Breeding Season an “under-arms throw away”, Sam Hayes and Cornerstone has invested heavily in his management team in the last few months to help drive the farm’s success to a new level.
“The arrival of a Marty Roberts as Farm Manager twelve months ago and the recent addition of Sam Pritchard-Gordon as my Bloodstock & Sales Manager has given the farm renewed momentum and impetus to chase for even better results for our clients.” enthused Sam Hayes.
“Marty has been brilliant in delivering best practice and developing our existing staff. However it has been a strategic play to employ a full-time vet and also a 2-I-C to Marty and I am delighted to announce the arrival of Dr Paul Lubbe as our full-time veterinarian and also to have Petra Caster has the assistant stud manager.”
Dr Paul Lubbe has moved his family from South Africa where he was a senior reproductive vet at the world class Drakenstein Veterinary Clinic on the Western Cape. Prior to that Paul gained experience working several stud seasons in Australia, primarily in Queensland and most recently with Aquis Farm.
“I had the pleasure of working with Paul in Queensland and was consequently very keen for him to relocate back to Australia to take on this role as he is a natural team player, with a immense drive for improved results.” Stud Manager Marty Roberts explained. “Thankfully the farm and the Barossa Valley did all the selling and we are delighted that Paul agreed to be part of our team,” Marty continued.
Along with overseeing all the reproductive work during the stud season Dr Lubbe is a passionate equine dentist and in addition to his dentistry will be busy with survey and pre-sale radiographs in the off season, but will also be available 24/7 for any emergency that presents itself.
Petra Caster, the newly appointed Assistant Stud Manager, has held senior roles with both Aquis and Baramul Stud in the last decade and brings an enormous wealth of knowledge to the Barossa. Yet it was the commencement of her career under Marty Robert’s tutelage at Coolmore Australia in 1999 that clearly fostered the Cornerstone “head-hunt” for the best operator in the business.
Petra has travelled the world and has worked for some of the best in the industry and we believe that with the arrival of both Dr Paul Lubbe and Petra Caster we will continue to “fly the flag” for the South Australian Thoroughbred.
