About Cornerstone Stud

Colin Hayes AM. O.B.E established Lindsay Park Stud in 1965. With passion, intuition and a masterful plan Colin Hayes developed a world-class stud and training complex that drew accolades from industry experts the world over. An ideal equine environment for breeding and training, it was the foundation of his success and now for the future generations of the Hayes family.

Colin’s deeds as a trainer have been well documented, establishing himself as one of the all-time greats, training over 5000 winners of which 524 were at stakes level.

Colin also had a passion for thoroughbred breeding that left an indubitable mark on the industry. He established Lindsay Park Stud which in time proved to be one of Australia’s most dominant sources of successful sires. The likes of Without Fear, Arch Sculptor, Godswalk, At Talaq, Bluebird, Military Plume, Scenic and Jeune all stood at the Angaston property and helped shape the history of Lindsay Park Stud. Colin was also one of the first, along with his close friend and associate Robert Sangster to shuttle stallions to Australia.

Five decades on, and Colin’s grandson Sam Hayes is now at the helm of the stud business. A revised plan for the Stud has been established which clearly outlines the company’s goals, strategies and values.

In order to achieve the company goals the business, now known as Cornerstone Stud, needed to maintain a national presence whilst at the same time fostering growth within the local industry.

The plan revolved around standing stallions that would:
a) Attract mares from interstate,
b) Encourage local breeders to upgrade their mares and;
c) Encourage new breeders into the thoroughbred industry.

Being built on a proud tradition of horsemanship, the plan was to continue to deliver the best in horse care whilst providing a renewed focus on client service. The ongoing aim is to gradually increase the quality of the stallion roster whilst maintaining stallion numbers at between four and six.

The name change from Lindsay Park Stud to Cornerstone Stud occurred in May 2011. The business wanted a name that was solid and down to earth, yet signified the start of something bigger. The stud initials of CS are also a "tip of the hat" to the man that got it started.
